the attic
We hear from many people who want to know if the print, book, or china left to them by Great-Aunt Tilly is worth anything, or if they themselves have found something valuable in their attic or at a neighborhood yard sale. WE DO NOT PROVIDE INFORMATION VIA EMAIL OR TELEPHONE ON PRINTS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN AUTHENTICATED. If you want us to help you value or authenticate an item, or you want information on how best to sell it, we provide consulting services. These require payment in advance of a non-refundable fee of $120 plus any expenses. The fee entitles you to up to one hour of assistance -- additional hours are charged at $100/hour. If you are prepared to go forward with a consultation, please call us at 703-823-7436 to arrange payment. Otherwise, read on. We think the information provided here will answer many (if not all) of your questions for free. We are not in the market for reproductions nor do we accept them for consignment. If you want to sell or consign a print to us, you must first authenticate it and describe its condition. If it is a framed print, you will generally have to take it out of its frame to do so. If we have any interest in your item, you will have to ship it to us without a guarantee we will purchase it. We must inspect items before paying for them to verify the accuracy of your description. For more detailed information on specific items, please click on the category below that best describes your item(s).
We are no longer purchasing any china except Meakin Birds of American SERVING PIECES (platters, serving bowls, etc), and plates from the Royal Worcester Collectors' Centenary Edition Audubon's Birds of America (circa 1930s). Before you contact us about the Royal Worcester series, please view the plates we have from this series. If you think you might have china of interest to us, please fill out our item inquiry form. Include a complete listing of the pieces you wish to offer. Describe condition, paying special attention to flaws including discoloration of any sort, the presence and degree of crazing, scratches, and printing/paint losses. Please also indicate your price for each item (if you have one), and whether or not you can provide photos. We are not in the market for reference books, or books reproducing Audubon's work, and we cannot help you with values beyond the information you can find for yourself on our website. If you have a 20th or 21st century book about which you want information, you can check out our library. There you will find our retail prices for the same or similar items. Our retail prices are not what you can expect to sell your items for, but may be taken as an indicator of replacement cost. If we don't sell your book, or you can't find the information you seek on our website, you'll have to do more research elsewhere. We will not supply prices for books or other items marked "SOLD." We are not actively in the market for antique books by authors/artists other than Audubon and Alexander Wilson. Folio refers to larger books (found in a range of sizes) while octavo refers to an average-sized book (about 11 inches x 7 inches, or the size of a modern hardback novel). All sizes listed below are APPROXIMATE -- small variations in size are normal. The books we are interested in are
If you have any of these books, and want information on values or wish to discuss consignment or a sale, please call us at 703-823-7436 or contact us through the item inquiry form. Please provide information on publisher(s), year(s) of publication, number of volumes, number of plates and overall condition. ITEMS CONNECTED TO AUDUBON, HIS ASSOCIATES, OR MINNIESLAND The minniesland.com collection includes several nice autograph items, two letters, and a few prints of Audubon, Audubon family members, or the Minniesland estate. We appreciate the historical significance of these items, and are always interested in hearing about anything you may have of that nature concering Audubon or people related to him. We occasionally have customers seeking such items, and we can assist you in determining an item's value and deciding your best course of action. If you have personal items of this sort, feel free to contact us through our item inquiry form. There are millions of Audubon and other natural history reproductions in circulation. If you have a print about which you are seeking information, you should start with the knowledge that it is much more likely to be a reproduction than an original print, no matter how old or real it looks. With prints, the writing on the print is considered an important part of the work, and is generally included with few or no changes. We do not buy reproduction or facsimile prints (a facsimile is a print that is identical in size and faithfully reproduces the appearance of the original, while a reproduction may be of a different size or make minor changes, e.g., by adding or subtracting writing). If you wish to offer prints for sale or consignment to us, please proceed to the section on authenticating prints.
