These beautiful hand-colored engravings (most based on the art of J. Stewart) are from the Blackie & Son editions of Oliver Goldsmith’s A History of the Earth and Animated Nature with additional writings by Georges Cuvier (Baron Cuvier). The prints are from several different editions of the work, published from the 1850s to the 1870s. All prints measure about 9-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches, and are in generally very good condition with age toning and varying degrees of foxing or soiling. The illustrated titles and animals appear first, then the birds, followed by reptiles and insects. The selection concludes with engraved portraits of Oliver Goldsmith and Baron Cuvier.
