NYHS Watercolors

New-York Historical Society Audubon Watercolors

The original Audubon paintings are among the most important works of art created in 19th century America. They were acquired directly by the New-York Historical Society (N-YHS) from Lucy Audubon (John James’ widow) in 1863. In 2006 the N-YHS licensed the 50 “best” Audubon watercolors for reproduction as limited edition Giclée prints, with the agreement that the watercolors would not be reproduced again for a miminimum of seventy-five years. This exclusive arrangement assures collectors of the rarity of this edition. The line has now been expanded to include ALL Audubon bird paintings in the collection, a choice of almost 500 images, each in the exact size of the original painting. There is a strict limitation of 200 copies of each image. Prices begin at $900. Space prevents showing anything but a very small sample of prints, but if you are interested in a specific painting (or the painting for a specific print), please contact me for an image, size information, and price. Click the small photos for larger images. Plate numbers that include an “A” were not used as part of The Birds of America.
