The only stork native to North America, Audubon managed to fit this watercolored bird on the page. In the Havell print, however, the bird pokes through both the right and left edges of the image. The effect underscores the monumental nature of Audubon’s efforts to depict the birds the “size of life.”
There is a strict limitation of 200 copies of each image. Space prevents showing anything but a very small sample of prints, but if you are interested in a specific painting (or the painting for a specific print), please contact me for an image, size information, and price. Plate numbers that include an “A” were not used as part of The Birds of America.
