Impressive image of a male in a dive; this species is known for its aerial skill. Also called the Man-o-war Bird due to its piratical habit of stealing food from other birds in mid-air. Males have a bright red pouch which they inflate to attract females. Full sheet, some offsetting and toning. Good color.
We offer the best known of Audubon’s original prints — the large and famous bird prints from the Havell Edition (hand-colored etchings with engraving and aquatint, published 1827-1838).
