Originally painted by John James Audubon in 1831 with background by George Lehman. This impressive painting was not used forThe Birds of America; Audubon used a painting with the bird in profile (see PL 311 below).
There is a strict limitation of 200 copies of each image. Plate numbers that include an “A” were not used as part of The Birds of America.
